well it appears that i'm one of the unlucky ones, as everyone else is having nothing but good things to say, i'm so far getting frustrated...

i picked my 1st one up sat morning and finally got home to use it at 4, only to play with it a while before i checked for dead pixels... sure enough, there was one, so i took it back and even though the gateway store only had 1 left, they gave me that one, and they even let me check for pixels before i left.. so i get home and boot up, and start playing more, and try to connect to my network (wireless),

problem is that it connects, then disconnects. this kinda repeats itself for a while and then stays connected, but doesn't allow me to browse the net, or if so it goes at a snails pace.

i've tried reinstalling drivers and everything, but this has got me really mad, cause the first one wireless worked fine but lcd was messed, now this one lcd is cool, but wireless is messed up. and it doesn't help that they don't have anymore laptops for me to exchange with, and they told me my only alternative would be to have gateway ship me one (which will take about a week)..

now my dillema is, that if i have them send me another one and isn't working perfectly i'm going to be REAL pissed.. i love everything else about this thing, but i'm not sure if i should just return it and get something else or not.

has anyone else had this problem with the wireless?

*edit* figures, after i type this long post, it finally hits me to try a different channel on the router... needless to say, it works now and i feel dumb

Haven't had any problems with the wireless but I found 1 dead pixel on my 505X also. It is in a really annoying spot near the center. I will be asking for a new one tomorrow.

you wouldn't happen to have a 2.4 ghz cordless phone in the house...

from the dell forums (http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?p=139211#post139211)

you wouldn't happen to have a 2.4 ghz cordless phone in the house...This is a very real problem. When I installed a 2Wire HomePortal (DSL/802.11b), immediately we had problems with our 2.4GHz cordless phone. The sound was so faint we could barely hear callers. We ended up upgrading to a 5.8GHz cordless phone system and the problem went away. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise since we like the new phone system (Panasonic KX-TG5110) a lot better than the old one.

I also experienced frequent connection drops when first operating my M505X on my wireless network. I found out that I needed to uncheck the box for "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network" in the wireless network properties window to make my notebook compatible with the 2Wire HomePortal.
