Not sure if the first one works.. comparison to XsternMinator I think..
This is w/ the ATI CAT 4.1 drivers and using ATITOOL settings of 391/234.
It's nice to see the G1 keep up w/ the F2..

OH WOW! 2983 is VERY impressive!
I fell out of my chair this morning and spilled coffee on myself.
Did you use ATITool? It's neat ain't it?
How did you do the sound test? I noticed that mine says "not supported".
I'd be tempted to push my F2 a little more but I doubt there's much room left.

Haha... Glad to see at least one response...
Yeah that ATITOOL is great! Much better than Powerstrip.. Pwwrstrp didn't work well for me at all.. it made my cmptr really buggy when pushed to those #'s.
Thanks for all the great info and recondmondations!
I'm not sure why my sound is supported and yours isn't? that seems strange?
It's also nice to see that the G1 can keep up w/ the Alienwares.. Though according to this link they seem to have similar scores when not overclocking to us..

The sager 5680 on there at 2950 w/ no overclocking!? How's that happen?

w00t~!
Nice benchmark score!
Though I'm beginning to have much less faith in the 3dmark03 scores as an overall gaming system benchmark.
It seems to me more like a video card benchmark considering how processor speed is almost independent of results ;)
edit: Oh, the 5680/8890 may have better scores because they use the intel chipset instead of the sis chipset... Perhaps it has to do with dual-channel DDR?

NICE!!
I noticed you're using the Omega drivers.. I've tried them both.. Do you guys prefer one over the other?
Ouminan, what tweak prgrm are you using? ATITOOL or PwrStrp?
Tell me how you feel about your G1? Give me your opinion?
Thanks,

I prefer ATI over Omega. Omega adds tweaks to ATI's drivers that I don't think are necessary. ATI drivers are very well written for general purpose and benchmarking. Just plain excellent drivers all around. (I wish I could say that about my rage pro)
Haha! It's like we have the rise of ABS Machines!
BTW I just realized that Ouminan is officially running his machine at PRO TURBO! Yeehaw!

Yes on Sagers. Dual Channel DDR, Intel Chipset etc... The Sagers are insanely fast.
Keep in mind though, for a machine that weighs many pounds less and doesn't have Dual channel, the G1 is doing very well in my opinion.

Hey guys,
I was using ATITool, but I may switch to powerstrip as it seems more stable.
LOL about the Pro Turbo spec Xsterminator! I just realized too after you mentioned it.
BTW, where do you get the tweaked INF's for the official ATI drivers? I like the ATI better than the Omega for stabilities sake, but I was too eager to get my laptop up and running (got it with no OS) than with scouring the internet for those ATI INF's.
EDIT: oops, just went to Rage3D as you suggested xsterm, found the tweaks and what not... :$

X, what are some advantages of using the modded Catalyst drivers rather than the factory provided drivers? Aren't the drivers provided by AOpen and Asus and the like basically just modded Catalyst drivers as well?
XSternMinator

The Asus/Aopen drivers are most likely based on an older version of the Catalyst drivers, i.e. 3.x
The newest driver is 4.1.
Vendors often have little or no incentive to upgrade their drivers. If it ain't broke, why bother?
Generally newer drivers have better performance and stability.

What an adventure that non-upgrade was. I downloaded the drivers. Read ATI's installation tips. First thing..get rid of the old drivers through Add/Remove software. This I did. Prior to that I did a system restore, just in case. When I attempted to install ATI CAT 4.1 the wizard copied all files and then at some early point in the process I got a "setup error, couldn't find hardware" actually there was a bit more of a message but it was apparent, for whatever reason, the setup wizard was not noting the existence of my Radeon 9600. Of course I tried several more times, complete system shutdown and reboot, etc. Same result. Ok, so then I go to do my system restore and XP tells me it couldn't restore to that point. By this point I was getting a bit concerned. However, I found the drivers disc that came with my G1 and basically re-installed the old drivers. Not a decision I liked, but I don't know if I have any other option.
Did any of you other G1'ers have problems installing the new ATI drivers?

What you have to do first is to "mod" the Cat 4.1 drivers.
Go to www.rage3d.com and download mobility mod. It's in their mobile forums. Read the first 2 topics.

Mine went fine.. though i didn't remove my old one's. I just ran the new driver's setup.exe. I assume that it either overwrites the old one's or replaces the old drivers.
The process worked flawlessly w/ both the ati and the omegas.. as for adding the rage 3d mobility thing, I haven't done that. Is that something we need to do?
I do get some minor hitching playing CoD? Is this normal? Seems to happen real fast when there's a lot of action going on. Doesn't happen often, but it does hiccup every once in a while.

Hm, I haven't experienced any hiccups as of yet. I don't know if having a clean install of everything can be related to that but mine is squeaky clean!
