View Full Version : No Mouse for 675 - USB Devices Failing
I tried to use a mouse on my one week old m675 and it worked for a few days. Then, all of a sudden my optical mouse died. So, I went to Best Buy and bought a new intelliMouse explorer and it worked for an hour. Then, no mouse worked in any of the USB ports. They'd connect and drop the USB connection every 2 seconds. I remember this happening at the Gateway store and would've never bought this knowing that I can't use a mouse properly.
Any ideas?
The mice work perfectly in all other systems, btw. Even changing the BIOS setting lead to more frustration.

I would suggest contacting Tech Support on this.
I usually have all four USB ports active at home, and three active at work, and have never experienced any mouse glitches. My M675XL is of November 2003 issue. Others I know with the M675 have not reported any trouble either.
You can check available USB power using this procedure:
1) Navigate to the System Control Panel: Start->Control Panels->System
2) Click on the Hardware tab
3) Click on the Device Manager button
4) Click on the + next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
5) Double click on all the USB Root hub entries, and on each window, click the Power tab
6) Try plugging in the mouse, and see if it's recognized. If you get a strange power reading, there is something wrong with the mouse (yes, it is possible but rare to get one or two bad mice in a row), the computer, or the input power.
After using 2 more mice on the machine (one being at the tech department at my local Gateway store), the problem still occurred. I exchanged the system at the front desk since the (store & phone) tech staff and I were puzzled.
The only thing I am not fond of is the logical PS/2 port on the motherboard.

One thing that puzzles me is that on both of these machines, I have to set the scroll wheel setting each time I power up. If the Toshibas had better video cards and the num pad, I'd be returning this in a second. Oh, got to love compromise. :)

No mouse problems here (yet) - I've had my machine for a week. However, I do notice the scroll wheel setting that resets itself - a minor annoyance. Looking for a fix for that...
