I am trying to figure how to use a feature with these laptops that is available on nvidia based laptops of similar nature. It is called "fixed aspect ration scaling". This allows you to play a game that does not recognize widescreen in a 4:3 resolution. However, on the gateways, the only option is to disable scaling. Which means if a game is set for 800x600, you get a "window" in the middle of screen. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also I have tried some custom widescreen resolution such as 1152x720, same 16:10 ratio as 1440x900, but the gateway goes into panning mode. I have tried all different drivers, registry hacks, etc.

Most information points to disabling DDC, but the is only viable on external montitors. You do not get that option with the builtin screen.

Any help is appreciated.

Jawest - glad to see you're enjoying your new m675 as much as I am! Which games are you trying to play? Sometimes the fix will have to be game-specific, such as with getting Rise of Nations to run in 1440x900.

I am enjoying it over all coolwind. I have tried several games. Two of the most notable are Jedi Academy and UT2004. The thing is I have done all the different tricks for these. ANd still cant get them going the way I want. I can't get either one to recognize the 1440x900. Even when editing the .cfg file on Jedi Academy for instance. The other reason I want to get custom resolutions working is because I would like to run at lower resolutions for better performance. The one I have been trying to get going is 1152x720. I have used Powerstrip, tried editing registry settings, inf files, etc.

When I use the 1152x768, that when I get the panning issue.

Ok - I hear ya. You're way ahead of me - I've only used the Omega drivers to solve an issue I was having with CoD. Have yet to tinker in the registry or try PowerStrip. Have you checked the widescreen gaming forum?

With games, it has to do with the software more than one's specific hardware. UT2004 is nice because widescreen resolutions and windowed mode are available. I play Desert Combat (bf1942), and I have to endure the stretching of 1024x768 to my 1440x900 display. If you are allowed to run the program in a window, then you will bypass the stretching and panning. If not, there's not much that can be done.
