I have an eMachines M6805 and when I upgrade from XP Home to Pro I loose the ATI drivers for the Mobility Radeon 9600 video card. Without the card I can't play most recent games. I have been working with ATI and eMachines for about 2 weeks without any luck. eMachines finally said they don't have drivers for XP Pro and ATI says they don't offer drivers for notebooks. Has anyone tried this upgrade?

I did a clean install of XP Pro on my M6805, and simply used the drivers for the ATI card found on the 3rd CD of the Restore Discs. If you explore the 3rd CD, there is a folder called drivers, and in there is either a folder marked ATI or video (can't remember which, and I don't have the discs with me now to give you the right name) with a setup.exe file you can use to install the video drivers. Once I installed that driver, everything has been fine, and I can play games like Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy with no problems whatsoever. Hopes this helps!

also you might want to try omega's drivers. There tweaked for performance for games. http://omegacorner.com/index_ati.html I am currently using them with no problems.

kind of find it hard to believe that emachines wasn't able to tell you "look on the third CD. you will find the driver there."

i also find it hard to believe that ATI would EVER EVER say they don't offer drivers for notebooks. that makes no sense whatsoever. you can get the drivers right on their site for the 9600 card.

catalyst drivers are here: http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=12&submit.y=9

hope you get it working!

yah well you have to unpack them and install it manually - woohoo.. i can't believe they defer to the manufacturer.. that is just lame.
