Hi all,

The following configuration is around US$ 1900. I am planning to
run 2D and some light 3D CAD applications on that. I'd appreciate
any feedback regarding performance and price balance. Thanks in
advance.

only reccomendation, buy the cheapest hd you can, and then sell it on ebay and upgrade to the 60 gb 7200 rpm drive (which dell currently does not offer w/ the D800)

that configuration isnt bad but i bet you coudl save a bit more if you skimp on the CPU a little

1680 x 1050 dont makes sense.... everything is just to little. Apple is selling 20" cinema displays with that resolution....

Resolution is all about personal preference. For CAD I would want at least SXGA. I think you'll be happy with it. The other guys had good suggestions; I'll add that you should get the lowest ram offered from Dell (unless they are offering a free upgrade) and buy through a third party company, this will also save you some cash.

Axiom,

By "at least XGA," do you mean either SXGA+ or SUXGA? I might be running CAD on a SXGA+ i8600 -- is that okay, do you think?
