I bought this notebook for my wife to use for basic net surfing and watching dvds in the car. I bought it off of Dell's outlet site for about 1k and alltogether its not too bad of a notebook. Out of a possible 5 stars, I would give it a 3.

The build quality is pretty good but the keyboard is a little mushy. The screen is a little washed out and the viewing angles are not that great but there are no dead pixels and the brightness is adequate. The left palmrest does get warm but never to the point where it becomes uncomfortable. It has a 40 GB 5400 RPM drive in it so I guess thats why it is a little warm but I will take the tradeoff.

What really makes this notebook enjoyable and a keeper is the wireless connecton. After a little software tweaking, the wireless was setup and with the Belking 54g router, the signal and speed are excellent.

The only real negative associated with this notebook was with how Dell shipped it. Because I live in Hawaii, the only shipping option available to me was next day shipping which costs $72. I ordered on Saturday and the notebook was shipped the following Monday. I expected it to arrive on Tuesday, but Dell decided to use 2-day delivery which is pretty much 3 day to Hawaii and I didnt receive the laptop until Thursday. I'll try to get some credit back ut I'm not putting too much hope into that.

Here are my specs:

Pentium M 1.3 ghz
128mb RAM (512 stick of Kingston on the way)
40gb 5400 rpm hdd
Intell Pro/Wireless 2100
DVD-Rom
32MB Intel Integrated Graphics :moon:

I think a lot of folks are afraid to buy a refurbished computer. But my cousin bought an Apple and she's very happy with it. Sometimes it's the best way to buy.

They should give you a break on the shipping at the very least because you took a refurbished system off their hands. I imagine those are a little tougher to move out of the warehouse as compared to new systems.

Anyway, I think buying a notebook is the way to go if you live in a place like Hawaii. Especially if you live near the ocean. How great would that be??
